Joy in a Duvet

I love Kikoi as a fabric. It’s soft to touch, joyful in color and tone, and versatile in its many uses. Since the patterns are woven (not printed), the back and front are the same. There is no wrong side! It also means that the lines are as straight as the threads themselves so they are reliable guides when sewing.

I made this duvet cover for a friend who wanted a bright reminder of Kenya for her guest room. The top side is made of big blocks in varying sizes with a few solids to give some balance to the stripes. The back side is a solid, pale blue. Since the fabric is so soft, I made pillow cases to match and trimmed them all with a deep navy blue. I happened to have some wooden buttons in my sewing box and I love the look of them on the bottom end of the duvet.
