Delightful Dominoes

I tend to crochet either when I need a break from my sewing machine or when I’m traveling. Crochet is the perfect travel craft — yarn is light, you can do it in bits and pieces without worrying about interruptions, and the tools are not likely to be deemed “hazardous” materials. (I use nail clippers instead of scissors to cut the yarn.)

Much of this little baby blanket was made during a five-hour flight delay in a tiny airport without any shops. The rest was made as I was recovering from surgery. I enjoyed learning how to connect different shapes for this project. The circle-to-square-to-rectangle process never got boring. (In fact, it was engaging enough that I forgot to take more pictures along the way!)

I also really love working with this yarn. It’s organic, hand-dyed cotton. It’s soft to touch and there are subtle color variations within each skein that I think are lovely. I get it from ColorSpun — a family-owned business in Heidelberg, South Africa. She ships her yarn all over the world though! She also makes patterns (like this one) and has cool tutorials on her website. I’ve been to her workshop and it’s amazing.
