Sunset on the River

I really wasn’t sure what I was doing for this blanket. In fact, it wasn’t meant as a blanket at all to start. I had originally been scrolling through Pintrest and was drawn to a handful of modern art quilts based on the half-square triangle. I happened to have a bunch of bright shweshwe prints on hand and thought perhaps I would do something artistic with them while trying my hand at this quilter’s trick of chopping and rearranging squares in interesting ways. I thought it would be some sort of wall hanging. What evolved was nothing like what I originally imagined. It also ended up brightening the crib of a friend’s new nephew rather than hanging on a wall closer to home. That’s the life of some projects though. Like a river, they chart their own course. And whenever I look at this one, somehow I still see ‘sunset on the river’ in my mind.
