Earlier this year, as the pandemic tsunami was making its way around the world, my cousin and her husband finalized their second adoption. They flew to Korea during the height of lockdowns in May and somehow managed to come home with their son. Since I was getting ready to leave South Africa in June, I packed up all of my sewing supplies and decided to crochet his blanket instead. I bought a pile of hand-dyed cotton yarn from my favorite supplier and stuffed it in my carry-on luggage. I started the blanket when I touched down in the US mid-June and then spent a couple months crocheting while “social distancing”.
It was my first time experimenting with the waffle stitch. I love the texture!
