Some good friends of mine here just recently had their first baby — a girl whose first and middle name differs from mine by only two letters. Given that I’ve not met anyone yet with my same name, this might be the closest I come! These friends have also been a blessing to me in my time in Savannah, so I made them this blanket.
The print fabric was all from a single jelly-roll. The solid pink was from a soft, old child’s bedsheet — well worn and pre-loved. As far as techniques go, the piecing part was simple and the quilting was a combination of free-motion techniques that I’ve done on a few different projects. (Which clearly I need to keep practicing!) However, the addition of lace in the border was entirely new for me. Thanks to my sister for the suggestion. She was right — it adds just the right level of extra sweetness! I also learned some things about how to work with lace in a border.
